Overview

This new double degree provides you with the flexibility to either pursue a purely legal career as a practitioner, or to build a successful career in criminology, drawing on your legal skills and knowledge. The law component includes compulsory fundamental units such as legal systems and method, criminal law, contracts, torts, property law, equity and constitutional law. The criminology componenet draws upon criminology, forensic archaeology and palaeoanthropology, forensic science, sociology of deviance, law and criminal justice studies.

Assumed KNowledge is any two units of English

Career Opportunities

Examples include legal practice or law-related management careers in the public service and diplomatic service and management in both the public and private sectors. Careers also include policy advice and development, policing and corrections; crime prevention, juvenile justice and child welfare, security industry, crime intelligence services; drug and law support services; environmental and industry regulation.

Advanced Standing

Criminology: Students may apply for advanced standing towards the degree on the basis of previous tertiary study. Law: Advanced standing may be given for prior study in any Australian program that meets the academic requirements for admission as a legal practitioner (including courses offered by the NSW Legal Practitioner's Admission Board or its equivalent). Advanced standing cannot be given for work experience or legal studies that are not part of a course that meets admission requirements.

To qualify for the two awards a candidate shall complete a total of 240 credit points comprising:
Bachelor of Criminology component: 96 credit points;
Bachelor of Laws component: 144 credit points.

Candidates who discontinue their studies in the double degree program may be eligible to exit with the Bachelor of Criminology..

Period of Candidature

The maximum period of candidates shall be 7 years as a full-time candidate and 15 years as a part-time candidate.
