Managing the costs of study
Understanding how to manage the costs can help you focus on your studies. UNE offers several ways to make study more affordable, including scholarships, advanced standing that can shorten your degree, and government loans with flexible repayment options.
Scholarships
Scholarships can significantly reduce your upfront costs and ease financial pressure while you study. UNE offers a wide range of scholarships to support students based on academic merit, financial need, and specific circumstances like your location, field of study, or background.

Most domestic students can access government loans to cover their tuition fees, which means you don't need to pay upfront. These loans (HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP) are repaid through the tax system once your income reaches a certain threshold.
Loans and paymentUnderstanding other costs
Course fees cover only part of your study costs. You should also plan for textbooks, digital materials, and other learning resources. Additional costs can depend on whether you’re studying on campus or online, or travel and accommodation to attend intensive schools.
Study related costsGet advanced standing (credit for prior learning)
Advanced standing allows you to receive credit for previous study or relevant work experience, helping you complete your degree faster and potentially reducing your overall costs. You may be eligible if you’ve studied at another university or TAFE, or have professional experience relevant to your course.
At UNE, advanced standing can sometimes be granted as part of your admission to the course, or for individual units within your course, giving you flexibility in how your prior learning is recognised.
