Our Pathways Enabling Course is the only fee-free uni entry course in Australia that also gives you two free units of credit, saving you up to $4,080*.

There are no course or student contribution fees for our Pathways Enabling Course, plus, as you complete two university units as part of the course, you can use these as credit towards one of 25 bachelor degrees (see list below).

You’ll study four units in the course:

  • three foundational academic learning units, including a career planning unit,
  • then choose an elective unit in the area that interests you. Both the career planning unit (‘Demonstrate Your Professional Preparation’) and the elective unit are official university units which can be used as credit towards one of the bachelor degrees listed below. That means you’ll reduce both the study time and the cost of your undergraduate degree by two units.

There are 15 elective units available from disciplines across the university, including business, criminology, geography & planning, health, legal studies, marketing, psychology, science and writing.

You will gain the knowledge and skills you need for tertiary admission – and the self-assurance to help achieve your goals. Throughout the course you’ll get support from UNE’s Academic Skills Office for help with your academic work and organising your study, as well as access to 24/7 online tutor support.

No matter what your educational background is, or what area you are interested in studying, the flexibility of our Pathways course will help you reach your goals – in a timeframe that suits your lifestyle. The course is offered part-time to help you balance your study with your life - you can complete in as little as eight months (two trimesters of 12 weeks each), or study at your own pace over up to four years.

If you start 24 June and study part-time over two trimesters, you’ll be ready to commence your undergraduate degree in Trimester 1, 2025.

Apply now to start on 24 June and future fit your life.

*Student contribution amount for two CSP Band 4 units in 2024. This course is fees exempt when studied in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). Students need to be aware of CSP eligibility requirements, including provisions around low completion rates. For eligible domestic students. This course can be used for admission into over 40 of UNE's undergraduate degrees, except those with an ATAR of over 77.10, work experience or specific educational entry requirements (i.e. HSC Band 5 scores or alternative pathway for Initial Teacher Education degrees). Please note that you need to choose units which match your intended undergraduate degree to ensure credit can be granted. Please call our Future Students Team on 1800 818 865 to discuss your unit options before applying.

Studying Online

At UNE, online study is about the kind of flexibility and support that can only come from a university that has long understood the challenges faced by adults studying from home.

We have three teaching periods (trimesters), giving you greater choice about when and how much they study each year.

We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality.

How does online study work?

Online study can also be referred to as 'distance education' (also off-campus, or external study) and provides an opportunity for you to study without having to physically attend a campus. To make sure your learning can take place when it suits you, UNE provides online facilities which allow you to send questions, submit assignments, engage with other students, order library books, check your results and access other resources, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What student support is available to online students?

As a UNE student, you will have access to our professional support services including:

  • 24/7 Online Tutor Support
  • Academic Skills & Assignment Support
  • Career Development
  • Individual Counselling — for personal and academic issues
  • Special Needs Office — if you need adjustments to how you study because of temporary or permanent disability
