'70th Anniversary Alumni Sessions | 1994 - 2013 | 'Regional to Global Impact'

Join us at our new UNE Sydney campus to hear from our special guests about their time at UNE and how the university impacted their lives and made them who they are today.

Panelists;

Mingan Choct

Mingan joined UNE as a lecturer in Poultry Nutrition in 1995. Within eight years he was a full Professor and was then the engine room in founding the Australian Poultry CRC in July 2003 and was the CEO of the CRC for its entire 14 years.

He was also instrumental in developing layer facilities at Laureldale farm, the Rob Cumming Research Facility at Kirby Smart Farm and the Net Energy chicken calorimeters at CART. Post-CRC he contributed to the development of the Poultry Hub Australia at UNE and embraced the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor for External Relations from 2017 to 2020.  Mingan was made a UNE Emeritus Professor in 2023.

Rachel Chant

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2009, Rachel went on to complete a Master of Applied Theatre Studies in 2011 to hone her craft and enhance her prospects in the theatre industry.

Since then, Rachel has directed for theatre companies across Australia, including Ensemble Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre Company, Darlinghurst Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, and Australian Theatre for Young People, as well working as a guest director at NIDA and Australian Institute of Music and Dramatic Arts. Rachel was the Festival Director of Bondi Festival from 2015 - 2024. In 2020, Rachel was awarded a UNE Rising Star Award.

Ben Thompson

Ben graduated from UNE in 1998 as a Bachelor of Economics and Laws and is now the CEO and Co-founder of Employment Hero, a global leader in employment management platforms.
