Welcome to Discover UNE. These tours explore the unique history, houses, gardens, and collections of the University of New England. Visitors are welcomed to the country of the Anaiwan people and invited to explore UNE’s Armidale campus. The tours include:

UNE: A History
Explore Booloominbah’s history as a family home, a WWI convalescent hospital, a University college, and as Australia’s first regional university. Uncover records that reveal how our heritage emblems (coat of arms, flag, mace, ceremonial robes, and graduation chairs) were designed, and rediscover UNE’s original graduation hymn. -

Outside Looking In

Heritage Rescue

Trevenna

Gardens and Grounds
An introduction to the walking tours of UNE’s gardens and grounds, and the optional games and resources that accompany them. This collection of walking tours uses current and archival footage to explore UNE’s gardens and grounds. -
Walk 1: A Short Stroll
Discover the 19th century gardens surrounding Booloominbah and learn the history and meaning of their plants. Take the graduates walk to pioneers’ rock and the Ingrid Moses courtyard, stroll round the war memorial, Yarm Gwanga, and Arts oak trees. Learn more about Booloominbah’s original Rose garden in the bonus feature of this tour. -
Walk 2: A Long Walk
Discover the western end of the campus with its Natural Resources and Rural Sciences precincts, Natural History Museum, Trevenna, St Marks, Law School, Beadle Herbarium, and Mary White College. Meet some exotics and the UNE Deer Park on the way. -
Walk 3: A Very Long Walk
Discover the Bellevue Campus with its colleges, sporting facilities, boiler house, granite portals, and iconic Elm Avenue. Embark on an imaginative journey into the underworld and the realm of magic as you discover how the Elm tree is connected to the heroes and politics of the past. -
Walk 4: The Detour
This detour provides a mobility friendly alternative for completing Walk 2: A Long Walk. Visit the gardens of the Riggs, Stokes, and ITD Buildings, and meet some unique campus art along the way. -
Walk 5: Off The Beaten Track
This walk provides an alternative dirt-path detour within Walk 3: A Very Long Walk. If you have done the ‘Walk 3: A Very Long Walk’ before, or if you feel like a little ‘off-road’ adventure, you can take this circuit to gain a different perspective on the Bellevue Campus’ colleges, cricket and rugby playing fields, and Handel St. -
