Legal Services
UNE Legal Services is the corporate lawyer for UNE and its controlled entitles. It provides strategic, professional and independent corporate legal services.
UNE Legal Services is responsible for:
- Providing legal services to the University and it's controlled entities;
- Reviewing and approving all contracts and agreements, including leases, licences, memorandums of understanding, and confidentiality agreements before they are signed by the relevant UNE delegate;
- Arranging for signing of all contracts and agreements by the relevant UNE delegate;
- Providing a broad range of legal advice in relation to University matters (eg: intellectual property, discrimination law, privacy, dispute resolution, student conduct);
- Interpreting and advising on University policies, procedures and guidelines;
- Interpreting and advising on legislation including the University of New England Act 1993 (NSW) and By-law 2005;
- Conducting litigation;
- Arranging and coordinating external legal services and mediators;
- Responding to subpoenas; and
- Processing access to government information.
UNE Legal Services do not:
- Provide legal advice to students;
- Provide legal advice to University staff on personal matters;
- Manage or negotiate contracts on behalf of faculties, schools or business areas; or
- Manage the following:
