Dr Sosthene Musigwa

Postdoctoral Research fellow - School of Environmental and Rural Science

Biography

Dr Sosthene Musigwa is a postdoctoral research fellow studying the implication of feed energy in reduced crude protein diets for broilers.
Sosthene is a recipient of Bachelor Degree in veterinary medicine form the University of Rwanda, Masters of Science in International Health from the University of Edinburgh, UK, Masters of Science in Agriculture from the University of New England, and PhD (Poultry science) from the University of New England Australia.

The area of interest of Dr Musigwa is to explore the benefits associated with using apparent metabolisable energy vs net energy method to measure feed energy content. Sosthene is currently investigating an optimal energy required to maximise performance, enhance nitrogen utilisation, and minimise abdominal fat pad deposition in broilers fed low-crude protein diets. This will be related with nutrient digestibility, gut health, environmental and economic benefits. Dr Sosthene is also involved in teaching help by marking students’ presentations and thesis.
