Build a professional skillset to secure a career in the mental health sector
Psychology is the study of the human mind. Psychologists enhance mental wellbeing, addressing challenges in learning, performance, relationships, and society. Amidst rising societal stressors, technological influences, and evolving family dynamics, the demand for psychologists in today's society continues to grow.
To become a registered psychologist through UNE, you will first need to complete a three-year APAC-accredited undergraduate psychology sequence. You can achieve this through our Bachelor of Psychological Science (Rule A) or by majoring in Psychology in another degree. If you already have a degree but need the accredited sequence, you can opt for one of our Psychology Bridging Programs: the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Rule B) or Graduate Diploma in Psychology.
Next, you will need to complete a 4th year in Psychology through the Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, which qualifies you for Provisional Registration with APAC.
Finally, you will choose from two main postgraduate pathways to become eligible for general registration as a psychologist. The Masters (Professional) '5+1' internship pathway is ideal for those aiming to become registered general psychologists, while the Masters (Clinical) pathway is designed for those seeking a more specialised career in clinical psychology.
While many pursue psychology with the aim of professional registration, studying psychology isn't just for aspiring psychologists. A psychology background equips you to thrive in varied professional environments, from business, education, and human resources, to law enforcement, health care, and social services.
By studying with a university consistently awarded 5-star ratings by our students in The Good Universities Guide, you'll graduate ready for challenges in psychology, whether in private practice or an organisation.

A career in Psychology
Psychologists are in strong demand in a range of settings. A psychology qualification will ensure you are ideally placed to meet this demand and make a real difference to people when they are at their most vulnerable.
The structure of the entire psychology course is excellently mapped out. The online pedagogy is better than others I have been to - it's obvious they've been doing distance learning for some time.
I enjoyed the ability to undertake elective units alongside core units to support my areas of interest and future career.
I am definitely considering UNE for my Masters in Psychology, as this institution offers a diverse range of electives and areas of specialisation that can be tapped into as resources for success!
The Australian Government's Labour Market Insights website predicts ‘strong growth’ in demand for psychologists in the medium to long to jobs market, with the average weekly pay in 2023 being $2066.
