Unit information
Identifying and developing new ideas is crucial to the success of any enterprise. Taking an idea from concept to prototype, testing the market and pitching for support is highly valued by employers and entrepreneurs alike, and is essential to business success.
In this unit, you’ll learn hands-on experience and methods for developing a minimum viable product (MVP) to help you take your business idea to the next level. With UNE’s SMART Region Incubator, you can also collaborate and network with startup founders and mentors.
You’ll explore the ‘hows’ of building a business, as well as resources, business models and competitive strategies. You’ll learn about customer-centric innovation, funding and competitive strategic positioning, plus how to communicate the business plan to outside parties for support. You will also have the option of working in small teams.
The unit uses world-class startup development programs, making it hands-on and practical.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
