Unit information
In this unit we will examine contemporary global issues and how they contribute to or detract from peace and the wellbeing of people and ecosystems.
You will look at various interpretations of globalisation before examining the multiple and inter-related aspects of peace. Food security and hunger issues will be explored in a case study of the causes of inequalities across and within nation states.
The unit considers the benefits, problems and possible changes to global economic systems and examines the consequences of militarism and possible alternatives such as peace activism. Global warming and environmental advocacy are explored alongside the potential impact of technological advances in communication.
The unit concludes with an opportunity to reflect on our individual and national place in a globalising world and how we can contribute to a more peaceful and equitable planet.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
