Unit information
Undertaking honours provides you with opportunities to develop advanced knowledge in an area of science that you enjoy and want to learn more about.
Honours gives you skills in critical thinking, problem solving and data analysis which are needed in a multitude of career pathways. Our honours program is designed to foster your development as a skilled academic achiever and research professional.
Majors available span a range of scientific disciplines, with all programs including a substantial research project. The expected workload is consistent across all disciplines.
Your honours may involve preparation of a literature review, manuscript or other relevant coursework and also workshops or seminar presentations, as directed by your discipline and supervisor. You will also complete a research project and associated thesis, with guidance from your academic supervisor. After submission of your thesis, your disciplines/supervisor may also require a 'vive voce' examination.

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
