Unit information
Harmony is an important element of musical structure in many styles. Whether you play music for personal enjoyment or you are on the path to a musical career as a teacher, performer, producer or writer, a deeper understanding of harmonic structures will be of great use.
You will begin by learning foundational harmony and analysis skills including pitch, rhythm and meter, modality, tonality, harmony and texture, four part writing and counterpoint.
Your musicianship will improve as you focus on written work and analysis through theoretical examples and problems from a range of styles and musical periods from Baroque to the present day.
