Unit information
In this unit you will consolidate your knowledge of comprehensive care, with a focus on the nursing care of individuals with musculoskeletal, neurological and gastrointestinal health issues.
During 80 hours of professional experience placement (PEP), you will apply your knowledge, skills, and clinical reasoning in a practical setting, engaging in reflective practice. You will focus on concepts of comprehensive care, underpinned by key ethical and legal principles for person-centred, evidence-based care.
This unit also explores intraprofessional and interprofessional communication, digital technologies and health-promotion strategies within diverse healthcare contexts.

This unit includes 80 hours of professional experience placement.
Professional experience placements will only proceed for students who meet pre-clinical requirements in the first eight weeks of their enrolment in the course and maintain the currency of these requirements throughout the duration of the course.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- conduct a health assessment of a person with conditions of the neurological, musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal systems and interpret health information in order to plan and implement safe person-centred nursing care across the life span;
- implement and evaluate evidence-based clinical reasoning and the application of the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice during professional experience placement (PEP) to develop and consolidate skills in nursing practice, including recognising and responding to patient deterioration across diverse health contexts;
- integrate and apply principles of reflective practice, effective communication, and ethical and legal practice within a team approach to person-centred care;
- develop and apply knowledge and skills in pharmacotherapeutics and quality use of medications in relation to the neurological, musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal systems; and
- interpret and apply preventative and health promotion strategies to neurological, musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal conditions.

Assessments are subject to change up to 8 weeks prior to the start of the teaching period in which you are undertaking the unit.
