Unit information
When you work professionally in the field of criminology, it is crucial that you have confidence and experience making real-world decisions for real world situations.
This professional practice unit exposes you to real industry problems within the criminal justice system.
In collaboration with a broad range of industry partners, you will be provided with a working brief project to problem-solve these industry challenges.
The unit also introduces you to a range of employment skills and the development of professional tools suitable for working within a profession involving criminology. This is a hands-on project-based unit with industry links already established by the unit coordinator.

The Project Report is a group assignment. This assignment is selected from a prescribed range of real-world problems developed in collaboration with key criminal justice industry partners. In this unit, students work directly with industry and apply their criminological knowledge and skills to provide possible solutions to real-world issues and receive formative feedback.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- effectively integrate and appropriately apply previous learning and knowledge to make and justify decisions in a real world context of work;
- apply a range of professional practice tools to support job search skills and professional standards;
- demonstrate workplace competencies such as professionalism, confidentiality, communication, responsibility for decision-making, and organisational, cultural and social awareness; and
- apply critical analysis and reflection to conduct ethical research, synthesise and evaluate complex information, problems, concepts, interpretations and theories to demonstrate cognitive and technical skills in a body of knowledge or practice.
