Unit information
Quality research in health and human services is used to drive new discovery, direct resources, make decisions for service provision and guide our understanding of effective interventions for the benefit of individuals and communities more broadly.
Develop a well-rounded background into sound research with this unit, focusing on the qualitative and quantitative research approaches that have traditionally been utilised for health and social care research and evaluation.
Guided by UNE’s world-class researchers, you will have the opportunity to hone transferrable skills applicable to various research methodologies. These include designing a research question, determining appropriate methodologies to meet the aims of your research, and data collection, analysis and interpretation.
You will also learn about effective communication of your research outcomes to diverse audiences, using a wide range of media.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- describe the different applications of qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation approaches in health and social care;
- appropriately identify appropriate methodology to research questions and problems;
- identify correct analytic procedures to defined problems; and
- describe their analysis to a variety of audiences.
