Unit information
This unit further builds upon knowledge and skills you have developed in HSSW111 and HSSW222, exploring key aspects of working with groups such as workplace teams, therapeutic support groups and advocacy groups.
During simulated learning at your face-to-face, mandatory intensive school, you will practice and develop your understanding of how individuals, groups and communities can co-create opportunities for development, a core skill in social work.
You will deepen and integrate your awareness of social work practice and further enhance your knowledge of the role of social work within the broader community. Theory and practice relevant to cross-cultural issues within social work, discriminatory practices based on cultural norms, and the importance of cultural humility are also explored.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
