Unit information
This unit introduces you to common exercise and training practices in health and sports settings.
You will develop the technical and interpersonal skills to interpret and apply fitness test results to prescribe and deliver evidence-based exercise interventions, focused on improving health and fitness in the general population.

TBA | TBA | 4 days | Mandatory Intensive School | Trimester 2, Online | ALL students must attend the on campus MANDATORY intensive school for the unit. This face-to-face intensive is held over a 3-day period and delivered at UNE’s Armidale and/or Sydney campuses. Locations will be advised prior to the commencement of the trimester and will be dependent on numbers. No teaching activities will occur on Sunday. Dates to be advised. |

Students will require internet access with sufficient speed to view online video clips. The unit coordinator will provide access codes to view this material. Online students will require access to gymnasium equipment in order to complete skills base.
The School of Science and Technology considers all practical / laboratory activities as essential to student learning.
Attendance and participation in all practical / laboratory classes (sessions) is mandatory - exemptions will not be granted without supporting evidence.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad understanding of the concepts and principles that underpin health and fitness assessment and the design and delivery of exercise programs;
- apply specialist knowledge and skills to determine an individual's readiness to participate in exercise testing and training;
- interpret exercise guidelines and assessment outcomes to generate exercise programs that improve physical fitness and health in the general population;
- transmit specialist advice and provide specialist exercise services i.e. deliver exercise programs to healthy individuals; and
- demonstrate an ability to integrate knowledge from other sub-disciplines of exercise science, including biomechanics and exercise physiology, into the rationale for exercise prescriptions.
