Unit information
Consolidate your understanding and draw on the knowledge gained in Neurobiology I and Neuroanatomy to explore complex, cutting-edge concepts in neuroscience.
This unit focuses on how constellations of neurons form complex circuits to perform common functions. We examine normal function and the major pathological conditions that affect these systems, building a valuable understanding of systems neuroscience.
Topics include the chemical control of brain and behaviour, motivation, sex, emotions, language, attention and consciousness, and the plasticity underpinning learning and memory.
This unit encourages you to apply your knowledge and extend your scientific skills using self-directed learning and autonomy. You will have opportunities to hone your communication abilities, sharing ideas verbally and through written tasks as you assess core neurobiology principles and critically review current research in the field.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
