Unit information
In this unit you will be introduced to the concept of twice exceptionality; where a student is gifted and they are also living with a disability. The unit will investigate the many ways that twice exceptionality may manifest, such as: giftedness and specific learning disabilities, giftedness and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and giftedness and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
There will be a focus on the way in which a student’s giftedness can mask their disability, and the way their disability can mask their giftedness. The paradoxical needs of the 2e student will be considered and strategies for supporting the 2e student will be presented. Reading research and empirical evidence will challenge some of the many myths and misunderstandings that surround this group of children.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
