Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home
In this unit you will explore the research opportunities within the health and social care industry, building the skills to evaluate and communicate these prospects. You will foster a relationship with an organisation to collaboratively explore and create a research project that addresses real-world issues relating to one of four focus areas: community services, nursing, counselling or public health. Examples of topics you could explore include mental health, disability care, children and youth services, Indigenous health, health promotion. This unit will expand your understanding of the structure and trends of the health and social care industry, and learn how to work effectively with stakeholders to explore research-based solutions in industry settings. The ability to effectively bridge the divide between the needs of industry and academia is in high demand, and evidence-based decision making is a sought-after skill. Hone these capabilities in this unit by learning to translate organisational needs into co-created and participatory research projects and effectively communicate the benefits and limitations of research processes to industry stakeholders.

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*

Why study with us?

I'm grateful to UNE for the opportunities studying has given me, but above all, for making me realise I could actually do it, and giving me a sense of accomplishment.
