Unit information
As it is spoken by millions of people around the world, being able to communicate effectively in German is an increasingly practical way to ensure your relevance in a global economy.
When travelling abroad, listening and speaking skills in the foreign language are crucial. However, it is a challenge to learn a language outside the country where it is spoken.
In this unit you will build a sound basis for conversing in German. You’ll focus on improving the conversational skills (listening, speaking, pronunciation) that are needed to participate more confidently in spoken discourse in German-speaking countries.
When studying this unit, you will also develop the capacity to engage appropriately, and with relative fluency, in oral discourse across a range of situations.
Intensive schools
There are no intensive schools required for this unit.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
