Unit information
With most people now having at least one social media account to connect with family and friends, it’s now a large part of our daily lives.
While it’s fun to share stories, achievements and broadcast the adventures we go on, inevitably the growth in popularity of social media has led to a discussion of how our laws apply to this rapidly changing technology.
The most obvious example of this relates to social media and defamation. Other areas where social media law is increasingly getting attention include privacy, copyright, litigation, and criminal law.
This practical and innovative unit will equip you with the skills and confidence to critique and enhance your individual digital footprint.
In addition, you will gain a firm grounding in a range of legal issues which are relevant to the worldwide prevalence of social media use.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
