Unit information
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly evolving branch of Computer Science that deals with intelligent behaviour, learning and adaptation in machines. From the fields of speech recognition, to machine translation and robotics, AI has contributed to state-of-the art technology and is a key focus for future research and development.
This unit introduces you to a range of foundational areas in AI. The unit will help you to develop AI problem solving skills with broad applications to computational problems.
Topics include intelligent agents, classical and heuristic search strategies, evolutionary algorithms, probability and Bayesian inference, and basic machine learning concepts.
With a series of engaging practicals and programming assignments you will be ready to demonstrate technical capabilities that can help you to stand out in your career.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
