Unit information
Educators need a comprehensive knowledge of current digital learning principles and practices to create effective online learning environments.
In this unit you will examine the issues related to the design, development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of online learning environments. You will achieve this through the exploration, investigation, formulation and resolution of issues identified in institutional, technological, pedagogical, and ethical contexts.
You will explore current learning theories suitable for digital learning environments in order to make links between the theory and practice.
Not only will you build skills in this fast-paced area, you will also gain first-hand experience studying in a digital learning environment. At UNE, we are industry leaders in providing online education.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate coherent theoretical knowledge through the investigation of trends in the use of technology in learning contexts to inform the understanding of digital learning environments;
- demonstrate an integrated understanding of a range of digital technologies and evaluate their relevance and use in digital learning environments;
- apply judgement to measure effectiveness of a digital learning environment, communicating this effectively to others; and
- use a high level of autonomy and judgement to apply a range of technologies to the design of digital learning environments relevant to a social environment/context or workplace setting.
