Unit information
In both production settings and the natural environment, Australian and global animal populations are vulnerable to threats from disease.
This unit explores the significant impacts of disease in animals within different animal industries or systems.
Examining key disease processes, the unit introduces you to investigation and control principles, and regulatory aspects of disease control.
You will learn about the biology of gastrointestinal parasites and principles of control, focusing on grazing animals.
Next you will gain in-depth knowledge of the major diseases and health management principles of sheep, chickens, pigs, dogs, horses, Australian native animals, and grazing, feedlot beef and dairy cattle.
During the intensive school you will gain insights into the management and control of a range of diseases as you undertake post mortem examinations of sheep and chickens, perform laboratory testing on samples and undertake problem-based disease solving exercises.
