Notes
To complete PHYS404 successfully students should have knowledge of multi-variable calculus and vector calculus. If you do not have this knowledge contact the unit coordinator for advice before enrolling and consider first completing PMTH412 and/or AMTH246.
Please refer to the student handbook for current details on this unit.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts of Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism as applied to electrostatic (magnetostatics) fields, electrostatics (magnetostatics) in materials and electrostatic (magnetostatic) boundary problems;
- demonstrate autonomy, initiative and expert judgement, to critically evaluate and apply the magnetostatics (electrostatics), magnetic (electric) forces, magnetic (electric) flux, inductance and Faraday's law to practical systems which have a range of complexity; and
- using a range of advanced communication skills, synthesise the outcomes of laboratory experiments and demonstrate an ability to provide clear and cohesive specialist reports on the outcomes.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
