Unit information
This unit focuses on three integrated areas of pedagogical study: history, geography and project learning. You will undertake multimodal project work for historical and geographical inquiry learning as well as engage with and learn how to document children's historical and geographical skills and literacies.
Additionally, you will critically examine relevant learning frameworks/curriculum documents related to children's learning of historical and geographical skills and literacies.
This unit focuses on children from age three to eight years.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- explain and discuss how to engage with children through multimodal inquiries to facilitate their geographical and historical skills and literacies (CS) 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.7, 3.1) (GTSD 1.2.1);
- apply broad knowledge and skills to document children’s geographical and historical skills and literacies (CS 1.2, 2.4, 3.1, 3.6) (GTSD 2.1.1, 2.2.1);
- demonstrate how to foster children's inquiry into history and geography through specific project work (CS 2.7, 3.1, 3.2, 3.6, 3.9, 4.1) (GTSD 3.1.1, 3.2.1);
- analyse and interpret learning frameworks/curriculum documents related to learning history and geography in a variety of contexts, such as written reports and presentations (CS 2.1, 3.1, 3.6, 3.9, 4.1, 5.2) (GTSD 2.6.1, 3.3.1, 3.4.1); and
- demonstrate knowledge of strategies for communicating about children’s learning with parents/carers in the Early Years and the advocative process (CS 4.1, 6.4) (GSTD 3.7.1).
