Unit information
Education for Sustainability (EfS) is an educational approach that develops the knowledge, skills, values and world views necessary for people to take action for sustainability.
In this unit, you will learn about the historical and philosophical developments of EfS, and focus on the interplay of economic, social and political factors within sustainability issues facing our planet.
You will explore the relationship between education and social transformation and benefit from the opportunity to review your current understandings of EfS, as well as examine others' views within an eco-literacy framework.
There is a strong practical element to the unit, and you will apply contemporary EfS understandings to an analysis task where you will critique a sustainability challenge within a public document.
This unit enables you to build on your interest in sustainability and make preliminary links with being a teacher of EfS.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
