This unit is designed to broaden your understanding of being a professional and strengthen your abilities in reflective practice.
You will be encouraged to locate yourself as a professional across the spectrum of early childhood education settings, as well as explore various social influences upon the field, analysing the impact of change and your own role in affecting educational change.
Throughout, there is an emphasis on developing your academic literacies and professional communication skills, including the use of information technologies.

Notes
Students studying the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) from 2019, admitted under rule (a), must successfully complete this unit in order to progress to the remainder of the course.Students will be given two attempts to pass this unit.
This unit addresses ACECQA's Curriculum requirements, referred to as Curriculum Specifications (CS).

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- discuss understandings of, and critically appraise themselves as, Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) professionals (CS 3.3, 4.3);
- analyse both the importance and range of early childhood settings (CS 4.1, 4.2, 4.3);
- analyse changes in various social contexts and the impacts of change on the field of ECEC (CS 3.4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.3); and
- demonstrate professional standards of communication and literacy as appropriate to their context( CS 3.3, 4.3).
